Nothing short of absolute shock that any technician thinks that he/she has the right to copy (take or keep) anybodies data from their hard drive is nothing short of shame. I wondered if the major retail chains (you know the ones that have those built in computer shops) really could keep a handle on what their employees do with consumer's data. To find out that they are purposely copying and sharing personal pictures, mp3's, etc. of somebody's stuff is just plain wrong.
Truth be known, we (RCCS) may copy data off of a hard drive so that it can be safely erased and formatted to later be restored back to the original hard drive is about as far as it goes with us. We never would exploit someone's stuff. All I can say is that these major PC repair chains may eventually have a really big privacy problem on there hands if they don't shape up a bit on client confidentiality and safety for proprietary data. We don't need to know what your data is, nor do we want to, or plan to keep a copy of it. We just know that you value what is on your system and make sure you get it back with a working system.
Bottom line: YOUR DATA IS YOURS, NOT OURS, PERIOD.
