Wow! Hitachi is after all going to shake the world of hard drives a bit here in the not so distant future with the roll out of a 4 terabyte hard drive. Before, I talked a little about the 1 terabyte drive not really impressing me in an earlier blog, but this one does. To put it simple they have redesigned the head of the hard drive. By doing this they are going to be able to eventually be able to cram about 5x the amount of data into the same space as hard drives today do. C/Net has a really good review on this, if you haven't read it yet, you can do so here at this location: http://www.news.com/
In the end, however I hope they don't do something like the 1 terabyte and have 4 platters. This will disappoint me and many others that understand performance, etc. Oh, and I wonder how we are going to be backing up all this data that end users are going to be filling up these drives with?
Every time they say something is impossible, somebody proves it wrong. Go Hitachi!!!!
