What is Defragmenting, what does it do?

Fragments of your data (like building blocks) get scattered across your hard drive over time. Windows will begin to act sluggish if these blocks of information are not put back in their proper place. It is kind of like kid's not clean up their room in a while. This leads to a dangerous cluttery mess for your data. Defragging your system is one of the best and effective things to do first if your computer is acting slow. This will not change the speed of a system, just the time it takes to find the data on a hard drive. Defragmenter can be found under your start menu, program files, accessories, then system tools folder. Depending on the type of computing you do, RCCS normally suggest defragging at least once a month, unless you are a heavy gamer or graphic artist, then it may be every other day.
