I have heard the term Reformat, what does it mean?

Reformatting is the term used for clearing the whole hard drive to where it is ready to have a operating system installed. This is a really large topic and much debate can be raised with the different types of formatting. RCCS writes zeros to a drive 1 pass before formatting. This is not Department of Defense standard (they are 7 passes), but surely will wipe out all the old data ensuring a clean format and reinstall of your operating system. This also checks the integrity of the drive in the process, sector by sector. (Return to FAQ page)
